Dear Friend,
Guess what is happening one week from today?
The Seattle Marathon and Half Marathon!
This very special Seattle event takes place on November 25, 2012. The marathon run begins at 8:15 a.m and the half marathon run begins at 7:30 a.m. This annual event began in 1970 with a group of people from the University of Washington. The participation in these events increases each year- in fact, there are 17,000 expected participants this year. It has become one of the largest marathon events in the U.S.
If you know the two of us, you probably know that we aren't participating in this run. We aren't exactly "athletes"- the most extraordinary athletic event we are considering is a canyoneering trip in April. We also started running this summer, but that idea sort of faded away as the school year began...but Lord knows we try! So why post about the Seattle Marathon when we aren't even a part of it?
Well, the two of us are on Thanksgiving Break and were just thinking of fun things to do during break. We heard of this event and we thought it might be fun to spend the day in Seattle next Sunday. You only live once, so why not grab a peppermint mocha at Starbucks, cheer on some runners, and have lunch at The Essential Baking Company? Sounds like a perfect day to us!
Also, if you happen to be participating in this run, we wish you the best of luck! It doesn't matter if you come first or last place...you should be extremely proud of yourself for being part of such an amazing event!
"The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start." -John Bingham
Yours truly,
Kylie and Catherine
