Consider the Whale Shark

Dear Friend,

This post is the beginning of yet another series: "Consider the Animal." Although this may seem like an unusual idea for a series of posts, we thought we might as well highlight a variety of animals that we're fascinated by. Hey, through these posts, you may learn a thing or two.

Whale Sharks.

We all know what a typical shark looks like, but have you really considered the whale shark? If you're unfamiliar with it, we suggest you look up a picture or put two and two together- it is literally a whale plus a shark. It is the largest fish in the ocean (about the size of a bus) with quite the appetite for plankton and small fish. Whale sharks are known as "filter feeders." When they are ready to eat, they just open their enormous mouths and filters everything in their path. Unlike other dangerous sea creatures, the whale shark is actually quite docile. They are very friendly to divers, who could potentially "catch a ride" on their backs- although this is highly unadvised since you might just get sucked in.

K and C's Reasons to Love the Whale Shark:
1. They love food
2. They are gentle
3. They are legit sharks

"Sharks are as tough as those football fans who take their shirts off during games in Chicago in January, only more intelligent."- Dave Barry

Yours truly,
Kylie and Catherine
