Zen Cat/New Year

Dear Friend,

Welcome to another short post. We try to keep these to a minimum but sometimes life gets a little busy. We thought we would share 5 things with you that we love about the new year, and we promise to post more thoughtful posts soon. Thanks for hanging in there!

1. New calendars. Basically the possibilities of calendar types are endless. Kylie just bought a new calendar today: Zen Cats. Each month is a different drawing of a cat with a Buddhist quote. Basically it is the best thing ever.

2. Writing the date. We're so used to writing xx/xx/12, and now we get to add a new number to each assignment/check/letter we write! Although to be honest, it usually takes us well into the month of February to actually remember to write 13 and not 12.

3. Fresh starts. There's something about the new year that gives us a chance to start things fresh. Even though each day is an opportunity to start new things, the new year seems to make everything more official. See yesterday's post for our resolutions.

4. New opportunities. We like to imagine years like a books. This is volume 2013, page 1 of 365. When we look back on 2012, we can thing "That was a great year!" or "That was a disappointing year..." or "That was an exciting year!" A new year brings with it opportunities for new friends, new adventures (college), new memories, etc. Make 2013 a good one! You are in charge of writing your own story.

5. Graduation year! As scary as that sounds, we are actually very excited to graduate. We can't wait to make new friends and meet new teachers and see new things and integrate ourselves into a new community. New, new, new. We can't wait to see where we end up going to school, and all the fun adventures that will be sure to follow! Since 2005, we have recognized our class as the class of 2013. In 5th grade 2013 seemed so far away and we convinced ourselves that it would never come, but here we are.

"For last year's words belong to last year's language, and next years words await another voice." -T.S. Eliot

Yours truly,
Kylie and Catherine
